Complexity Is Not Rigor

Sophistication must serve clarity.

Discipline Map

Introduction

In quantitative investing, complexity can be confused with seriousness.

But a complicated model is not automatically a rigorous one.

The Core Idea

Rigor is reflected in clarity of specification, quality of assumptions, integrity of data, and honesty of review.

A simpler model studied carefully may be more valuable than a complex model understood poorly.

Closing Note

The standard is discipline, not ornamentation.
